The 2013 Prairie Adventure Camps will be held on the following dates:
Camp 1: June 11, 12, 13 or July 16, 17, 18
Camp 2: June 18, 19, 20 and July 23, 24, 25
Camp 3: June 25,26, 27 and July 30, 31, August 1
Camp 4: June 9, 10, 11 and August 6, 7, 8
Camps are 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and are open to children ages 6-12. Camp size is limited to 15. Junior Membership to Chestnut Square Historic Village is included with registration. Our school marms will lead the classes through the following activities:
Camp 1
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts: Weaving, hand spinning
Old-time games: Marbles, Jacks, Thaumatropes, Calling Cards
Home Living: Hearth cooking, butter churning, pie making, soap making
Camp 2
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts: Quilting
Home Living: Chicken pot pie, buttons, buttons, button, home-made ice cream
Old-Time Games: Dominoes, square dancing
Blacksmithing
Camp 3
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts: Cross stitch, knitting
Home Living: Making candles, cornbread, Victorian house cleaning techniques
Old-Time Games: Rag dolls, dulcimer playing, string games
Hopscotch
Camp 4

Home Living: Flowers, Language of the Fan, Making pens and journals

Crafty Campers
Before there was TV or computers or cell phones people occupied their time with craft activities. The results were given as gifts or used to decorate their homes. Experience the fun of old-fashioned crafting with other campers in our new Crafty Campers camps. Experience a specialty art class instructed by artists from the McKinney community. At the end of the camp, take your completed project home. Camps are limited to 15. Junior Membership to Chestnut Square Historic Village is included with registration. Camps are 12:30-3:30 for ages 9-13. All materials are provided.
