Hear the hammer’s clang on the blacksmith’s anvil.  Taste delicious Dutch oven cooking.  Touch cloth woven on an antique loom.  See how butter is churned.  Smell the campfire.  Yesterday’s living is a treat for the senses at The Chestnut Square Prairie Adventure Camp!  The 2008 Prairie Adventure Camps will be held on the following dates:

Camp 1:  June 10, 11, 12 and July 8,9,10
Camp 2:  June 17, 18, 19 and July 15, 16, 17
Camp 3:  June 24, 25, 26 and July 22, 23, 24

Camp is from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.  Junior Membership to Chestnut Square Historic Village is included with registration.  Our school marms will lead the classes through the following activities:

Camp 1
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts:  Weaving, hand spinning
Old-time games:  Marbles, Jacks, Thaumatropes, Calling Cards
Home Living:  Hearth cooking, butter churning, pie making, soap making
Schoolhouse lessons:  Singing

Camp 2
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts:  Quilting
Home Living:  Chicken pot pie, buttons, buttons, button, home-made ice cream
Old-Time Games:  Dominoes, square dancing
Blacksmithing

 

Camp 3
De-modernizing and class photo
Textile Arts:  Cross stitch, knitting, hooked rugs
Home Living:  Making candles, cornbread, Victorian house cleaning techniques
Old-Time Games:  Rag dolls, dulcimer playing, string games
Hopscotch

Camp is open to children ages 7-12.  Classes are limited to 15.  Cost per child is $100, $90 for members.
